THE PORT CITY RIBFEST THROUGH THE YEARS
In August of 2013 AKA Entertainment & Media brought a unique BBQ and music festival to the Battleship USS North Carolina Memorial Park. National rib teams were joined by national music acts to make the inaugural Port City RibFest a smashing success, drawing 17,000 attendees on the hottest weekend of the year.
Following another great RibFest in 2014 new rules at the Battleship made a relocation necessary. In 2015 the festival crossed the Cape Fear River to a 6-acre
tract of land that will soon be North Waterfront Park. Once again, the people came in droves, but alas impending park construction initiated yet
Insisting that the festival be held adjacent to water, RibFest promoter Allen McDavid decided to move it to Carolina Beach where the Fifth Annual Port City RibFest was held in November of 2017. Despite unseasonable chilliness a great crowd showed up and the foundation for a long run on Pleasure Island was established.
Last year’s Alliance Credit Union Port City RibFest was scheduled to be held in September, but Hurricane Florence had other plans, so our 2019 festival is basically a ‘reset’.
No matter the venue or weather challenges, outstanding food and great entertainment have remained a constant at the RibFest, This year will be no different.
